Embracing Change: The Power of Letting Go for Self-Love

Chapter 1: The Journey of Transition
Welcome to the "Letters through the Transition" series. These articles aim to uplift and motivate you as you navigate this pivotal phase of your life, moving from your past to a promising future.
Here lies your message: it's perfectly acceptable to release those who hold you back. You likely have individuals in mind right now. When you’re around them, you find yourself concealing your true self. Authenticity feels impossible. They seem trapped in their own patterns, and your perspectives no longer align. Their presence may cause you pain, attempting to tether you to their level of existence. It’s perplexing how being with them can feel so suffocating.
These are the people I’m referring to.
You cling to them because of the fear of solitude. Perhaps you feel obligated to maintain these connections simply because they’ve always been there. I understand your inclination to give them the benefit of the doubt, and I recognize that some of them may have good intentions.
Yet, as you embark on this new chapter, remember: you deserve better.
You are no longer open to relationships that diminish your spirit. You are no longer willing to engage with individuals who don’t consider your well-being. You don’t have to chase after those who neglect your presence or time.
You. Are. Not. Available.
I understand the fear associated with letting go. I once held onto every detrimental relationship, allowing anyone into my life, even if it meant enduring their harmful behavior. I was a chronic people-pleaser, allowing others to trample on my feelings repeatedly, and I would thank them for it.
But one day, I posed a question to myself:
Do I genuinely believe that no one else is out there for me? Is it realistic to think I could never find a true friend? Am I serious in believing that this is the only treatment I’ll ever receive?
I encourage you to ask yourself these questions now:
Do you think you’ll never encounter someone who truly resonates with you?
Amidst billions of people, is it conceivable that you won’t find even one exceptional friend?
Is the subtle bullying, the ignored messages, the hurtful comments about your growth, and the exclusion all that life has in store for you?
Are you truly serious about this?
I want to give you a jolt of realization because you are worth so much more.
You know it, and I know it.
Initially, it was painful to part ways with those I recognized as detrimental to my well-being. I confess, it hurt not only because I was letting them go but also due to the realization of how long it took me to prioritize myself.
Choose yourself, and resist the urge to rush into new friendships immediately. The key is to become your own best friend. It turns out that the advice to "love yourself first" is more than just a cliché.
Once you start investing in yourself and set the standards you deserve, you’ll find that the desperation for companionship fades. You’ll begin to uplift yourself, and naturally, like-minded individuals will cross your path.
You will discover those soul-deep connections that will leave you questioning why you ever settled for less.
