Background Exploration
Can you share a bit about your background, Chowa?
I feel a deep sense of empathy towards injustices, particularly those involving vulnerable animals. This sentiment stems from experiences in my childhood that were less than ideal. A brief warning: the following recounts distressing events involving kittens.
Between ages four and eight, I spent summers at my great-aunt’s farmhouse, surrounded by various animals including chickens, sheep, a male dog named Dingo, and a female cat, Kitty. Kitty would have one male kitten twice a year. Once the new male kitten arrived, the previous one would venture into the wild. I witnessed some of these kittens lurking around the farmhouse, but they distanced themselves from people.
However, at six years old, I sensed something amiss. One day, I observed Kitty giving birth to seven kittens. Alarmed by their cries, I rushed outside only to find my grandaunt drowning the kittens in a bucket, stirring them with a stick. Despite my desperate attempts to intervene, I was forced back inside, left to cry helplessly. Later, I noticed her burying them in the woods. I secretly followed, dug them up, and tried to revive them with my breath, clinging to a flicker of hope.
This experience left a lasting impression.
