Where is the Mind? Good Omens and the Subjective Experience

Chapter 1: The Nature of Subjective Experience
Lately, I've been feeling a bit on edge. It’s not a pleasant sensation. As I strive to quit drinking, the journey proves to be challenging, yet I remain resolute in my commitment.
The distressing news of the UK and US bombings in Yemen has weighed heavily on my heart. At times, the prospect of global peace seems like an exercise in futility.
What else is happening in my world? I’ve noticed delicate, glowing white feathers appearing in my path wherever I go. These are unlike any I’ve seen before, and intriguingly, both my sister and two friends have also spotted them.
What could these signify, I wonder?
To me, they feel like a sign from the spiritual realm. Each time I encounter these feathers, a smile breaks across my face. They uplift my spirit, although I can’t pinpoint exactly why. It fills me with a profound sense of reassurance, almost as if it’s a good omen.
The realm of subjective experience is where we truly exist. The internal world often feels more authentic than the objective reality surrounding us.
At times, science can come across as rather sterile and devoid of warmth. Its intellectual nature can seem harsh—like a sharp blade. I believe it is essential to balance this with emotional depth; we need a touch of magic. We are more than just fragments of our cerebral functions.
Currently, a beautiful melody reminiscent of angelic voices echoes in my mind.
While I don’t hold a belief in God as I once did, I don’t identify as an atheist either. I believe in celestial beings and that each of us possesses the potential to ascend to that status.
I view existence as a spectrum of consciousness—where letting go of greed, hatred, and delusion elevates one's state, while clinging to these negative traits pulls one down.
One of the admirable aspects of Buddhism is its non-proselytizing nature; there’s no pressure to convert others.
Religions can sometimes become overly controlling, and I find that uncomfortable. I value independent thought and respect differing beliefs. Reflecting on teachings that resonate with me doesn’t make me arrogant. I simply dislike authoritative structures dictating how we should think or feel.
I’m discovering that there’s no universal approach to learning; we are not mere copies of one another. Each individual is a unique being with distinct experiences that shape us.
When exploring spiritual teachings, it’s crucial to identify what resonates within you. What connects you to deeper truths? What opens your heart? What fosters peace and balance in your mind?
Embrace those insights and make them your own, much like developing a personal writing style. No two voices are identical.
