A Chance to Win $1000 with Just Three Lines of Poetry
Written on
You may find it hard to believe, but you can actually earn $1,000 by composing just three lines of poetry, thanks to the new writing challenges offered by Vocal Media.
This announcement is particularly thrilling for poets using Medium and Vocal Media. I'm an avid poetry reader, indulging in several pieces daily, though I haven't yet shared my own creations publicly. Perhaps one day I'll muster the courage to engage with the poetry community.
Since joining Vocal Media last month, I've been continually impressed by its vibrant and encouraging atmosphere that fosters creativity among writers through various challenges.
Previously, I wrote about other contests in my article titled "Introducing Two Vocal Writing Contests" and shared my initial thoughts on Vocal in "I Finally Joined Vocal+ and Reaped Immediate Benefits."
Unfortunately, my busy schedule prevented me from participating in those contests, but some friends of mine did take part. I wish them all the best, and I'd love to hear from anyone who wins so we can celebrate together!
In this post, I'm excited to introduce another challenge brought to you by Vocal Media.
It's known as the Blue Haiku challenge, specifically designed for poets who can craft haikus. I only learned about haikus after joining Medium, where I stumbled upon three-line poems that initially puzzled me.
Eventually, I realized these were beautifully constructed haikus by skilled poets, and I soon became captivated, reading every submission to the Illumination publication. I aspire to write such intriguing pieces myself one day.
Now, let’s revisit the details of the Haiku challenge on Vocal Media. First, let's outline the requirements.
To enter, your haiku must consist of just three lines, totaling 17 syllables: five in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. I was surprised to discover the specific structure and intricate details involved in crafting a haiku.
You can submit your entry to the Poets community on Vocal Media, which you'll find when you upload your work.
Your haiku must also relate to the theme of the color blue. You might write about the blue sky, blue flowers, blue oceans, and so on. According to Vocal, blue represents harmony, tranquility, creativity, loyalty, and at times, sadness. By the way, blue is my favorite color!
Vocal explains that "Historically, haiku writers have utilized this poetic form to convey emotions experienced in nature. A masterful Blue Haiku evokes feelings about something blue."
To assist poets, Vocal provided valuable insights in an article titled "High-ku Challenge Winners," which I found both informative and inspiring.
Now, let’s delve into the rewards for participating in this contest. The grand prize is $1,000, with second place receiving $250. Additionally, ten runners-up will be awarded $25 each. Thus, at least twelve individuals have the opportunity to win.
Your poem must adhere to Vocal's community guidelines, which prohibit harmful content such as hate speech. While I doubt haiku writers would engage in such behavior, I feel it's important to mention.
Participants must also be at least 13 years old. Only writers from countries that support Stripe are eligible to win monetary prizes from the contest. However, you can still join for the joy of writing even if you're not eligible for cash rewards.
Who knows? Engaging in the contest might lead to some intangible benefits, making it worth your time, especially if you're a seasoned haiku writer. I know a friend who published a haiku book and made several thousand dollars from it.
I am drawn to writing challenges on Medium, which is why the contests at Vocal Media excite me. They are a source of inspiration.
I hope Medium will introduce similar challenges that offer incentives to writers, as I heard they did before I became a member.
As both a writer and editor, I want to raise awareness about the contests available on Vocal Media.
I have started writing on Vocal Media and have enjoyed the platform immensely. If you're new to Vocal, consider joining through my referral link, which won't cost you anything extra, much like a Medium membership.
You now have 11 days to craft your three-line haiku and enhance your chances of winning some money. Good luck with the contest! If you win, please share your success with us so we can celebrate together on Vocal and Medium.
I hope we can connect through various platforms. I've noticed that writers can share their Vocal story links in the Illumination Slack workspace, specifically in the #vocal-writers-and-stories channel. I plan to check that channel regularly for Vocal stories.
I will continue to share my experiences with Vocal as I learn more about the platform.
Recently, I wrote my tenth post and received a payment of $10. Additionally, I got a $5 tip that pleasantly surprised me. Vocal also awarded me a $10 bonus for signing up for Vocal+, which comes with an annual fee. More importantly, I received a 10% discount for paying annually.
Here is a list of my recent stories in case you find something intriguing in my collection. Please feel free to share your Vocal account in the comments so I can follow you and promote your stories on my social media.
