Understanding Burnout
Burnout is a common issue that arises from relentless work or pushing oneself too hard. I've seen many writers on Medium expressing their struggles with exhaustion and burnout. Recently, I faced my own episode of burnout on Medium. However, I refused to let it stop me from writing.
How can we effectively combat burnout?
For three weeks, I was publishing between one to four articles daily, dedicating up to five hours each day to my writing. Being a workaholic has always been part of my identity; I thrive on productivity. Yet, there's a threshold where this relentless pace becomes detrimental.
Should I allow myself some downtime?
The answer is both yes and no.
I do take sufficient time to recharge, but I avoid prolonged periods of inactivity. Even as I considered whether to write this piece, I reminded myself of my commitment to stay consistent and keep producing content.
The key is to simply start writing. Continuous writing can make us feel robotic, so it's essential to reconnect with our purpose. Why do you write? For me, the answer is success. Each drop of effort I pour into my articles is a step toward my goals.
Establishing a Writing Routine
What does your writing schedule look like?
Do you aim to publish two articles daily around 7–8 PM? Or perhaps you find inspiration at 4 AM? It's crucial to develop a writing routine, as it signals to your brain that it's time to create.
Avoid overwhelming yourself with the expectation of writing twenty articles each day; such a strategy won't benefit your well-being.
Wishing you all the best on your writing journey!
