Navigating Parenting: The Unseen Efforts of Mothers

Chapter 1: The Unspoken Contributions of Mothers
Many individuals often compile exhaustive lists detailing what mothers are expected to do for their children, yet they overlook the significant accomplishments that mothers are already achieving.
It's essential to recognize the dedication shown by mothers who read to their children daily, engage in play without distractions from their devices, enroll them in seasonal enrichment programs, and most importantly, allow them the freedom to express themselves.
There's a tendency for others to never inquire about how a mother is coping with various challenges; instead, they jump to assumptions, offering unsolicited guidance. When a mother does disclose her methods of managing situations, if her approach does not align with their expectations, they are quick to criticize.
My parenting decisions are primarily rooted in science and evidence-based practices. Even on days when I'm fatigued or reluctant, I take the time to research what is best for my child.
It's crucial to remember that every child is unique; therefore, I refrain from adopting someone else's cultural or societal perspectives on parenting without first reflecting on my own experiences. I rely on literature, scholarly articles, and shared insights from other parents to formulate strategies that benefit both my child and myself.
The disparity between unsolicited advice and genuine support is astronomical. Whenever I feel compelled to provide guidance, I ensure to couple it with tangible assistance. While I understand that most advice is offered without ill intentions, it can be frustrating when people only focus on what I might be lacking or how I could improve.
Interestingly, my mother—whom I regard as an exceptional parent—rarely gives me advice. This is due to two key reasons: she appreciates my parenting style and recognizes that I am committed to evidence-based and ethical practices.
I'm not claiming perfection; my parenting journey has its challenges. Trust me, there are days when I feel overwhelmed and exhausted. However, I firmly believe that my struggles should never adversely affect my son. I would never allow my own storms as a parent to dampen his spirit.
